Kristy Carse

As I approach the ending of my undergraduate degree at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, my art practice has settled in a place of safety, as well as a place of growth – my home. Through navigating this pandemic, my home has become my school, my studio, and my social life. And so, I have been exploring the vibrancy of my daily life. In my current series of paintings, I have been reflecting on my home as a place of ‘embodied rituals’, where I move through time via a series of repetitive acts. By experimenting with a looser form of mark-making, I have embraced a less polished and more active style that is indicative of the ineffable memory of ‘home’ I strive to capture.
